Flora White: Executive Spotlight

This member spotlight highlights the work of Flora White, MBA, Girls in Tech NYC’s Managing Director, who has served for five years. While we’re sad to see Flora go, we look forward to continuing our collaboration, and we’re grateful for the vision, dedication, and community she has built since joining the board of Girls in Tech NYC in 2019.

During Flora’s three years as Managing Director, chapter membership grew by 800%. In this time, Flora launched Girls in Tech’s NYC Brand Ambassador program, activated and grew partnerships with sponsors such as Verizon, Publicis, Etsy, Ziff Davis, Columbia University, and Justice Through Code, and initiated an early and lasting focus on Gen Z and Black women in the tech industry through programming like GITNYC’s annual Juneteenth event, launched in 2021 when Juneteenth became a federally-recognized observation day. Flora’s passion for environmental sustainability will be represented in this year’s GITNYC Hackathon, with more details to be announced.

Alana Buto, former Managing Director, Girls in Tech, Austin, Texas, who has been leading the Events Committee on the GITNYC advisory board, will now lead GITNYC as Managing Director. “Congratulations Alana. I have every confidence in you, am excited to see our chapter reach new heights under your leadership, and I will be cheering on my GITNYC family, which of course includes our incredible members.”

If you want to connect or keep following Flora’s journey beyond GITNYC, you can find her running her own business! Flora’s new venture Evolution Content is a full-service boutique agency powered by TV producers who tell brand stories for businesses. Evolution Content helps clients #EvolveYourStory by bringing their mission, values, and purpose to the forefront of their brand’s story to drive engagement, trust, and longer-term loyalty.

Outside of work, Flora is a mom of two and is helping to launch the new Greenburgh Chamber of Commerce focused on the economic development of local businesses in lower Westchester County, including Hartsdale, Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Irvington, and Tarrytown, NY.
